Height/Weight/Built: Although now regarded as horrendously water-fat by others of her kind she is still slim and wiry by conventional offworld standard.
Personality: Although more outgoing than your typical Fremen, Yalara is still regarded as a little detached and remote by other members of the smuggler gang. Her tomboy nature combined with the hardships of Sietch life make it difficult for her to relate to soft pampered offworld women, yet memories of her rape ordeal have left her distrustful of men and hamper her efforts to be "one of the boys". Very curious by nature, especially about offworld culture and technology. she nonetheless retains the typical Fremen solemnity when talking about the desert and its power.
History:
Daughter of Fremen mechanic Mehmet Ishaq, Yalara hails from Blackrock Sietch in the western deserts of Arrakis. Raised by her father as the son he never had her interest in the wider world outside the Sietch walls was piqued from an early age by the various pieces of offworld equipment and technology which passed through his workshop, and gradually her curiosity and tomboyish nature began to chafe against the restrictions of Fremen life. As she grew older she would beg to be allowed to accompany the men on raiding expeditions against the Harkonnen overlords, and on the rare occasions when she was allowed to do so gleefully gathered up as many examples of foreign culture as she could lay her hands upon. With each offworld filmbook and recording which entered her hands though she became more and more disaffected with what she saw as the stilted isolationism of her people. Surely there had to be more out there for her than dew gathering and an eventual role as a dutiful Fremen wife.
As she grew from a precotious girl into a young woman Yalara also began to attract the attentions of the various youths of the Sietch, most especially the son of the Naib. She spurned his advances though, prefering instead to bury her head in her offworld books and stories of life out in the Imperium, until one day his lust and anger could be denied no longer. Catching her alone one evening he dragged her into a disused yali and brutally raped her, promising to kill her if she spoke out. Faced with the prospect of looking her attacker in the face every day for the rest of her life, a life among a tribe with whom she already felt precious little connection, Yalara finally decided to run. Sneaking out in the dead of night she was never seen again among her own people and found her way instead to Arrakeen and to membership of a smuggler gang. There she hopes to trade her Fremen desert skills for eventual passage off Arrakis and a chance to see the universe about which she has read and dreamed so much.
