Character Name: Giovanna Montelli
Faction: House Corrino (servant)
Sex: Female
Age: 29
Hair color: Red
Eye color: Grey
Unusual markings/piercings/tattoos: none
Height/Weight/Built: Slim, some might even say scrawny, around 5'4.
Personality:
Friendly and good-natured, Giovanna tries to see the good in people and make the best of any situation. While not painfully shy by any means she is a little on the quiet side and few would call her the life and soul of the party. Can get quite sad and wistful if someone gets her talking about her family and the circumstances of their exile; deep down she misses them terribly, but tries not to let this weigh her down or spoil her new life at the Palace.
History:
The only daughter of Count Alberto and Countess Isabella Montelli was always a slightly plain-looking girl who, while not ugly by any means, never quite managed to live up to the exacting standards of beauty expected of noble young ladies. Nevertheless her pleasant demeanour and kindly nature ensured she was always popular on the Montelli homeworld, far more so than her rakish brother Alessandro who from his teens onwards acquired a reputation as a cad and a womaniser. When Alessandro's affair with the favourite concubine of Corrin XXV was exposed, Giovanna joined her parents in exile on the sanctuary world of Tupile while her brother was executed for his crime. Although still a good-hearted girl she couldn't help resenting the House Corrino for what they had done to her family, to her brother in particular, and gave Princess Shalandra a frosty reception when the latter arrived on Tupile some years later. Shalandra was wily and persuasive though, painting her father as a weak man unable to resist the influence of the sinister Bene Gesserit witches who she blamed for her own misfortune as well, and by this means was able to worm her way into the affections of House Montelli in general and Giovanna in particular.
The two became fast friends and Giovanna was the most prominent member of Shalandra's unofficial "exiles court" on Tupile for a number of years. When the Princess took the decision to defy her late father's wishes and return to Kaitain, Giovanna was initially left behind and life returned more or less to how it had been before Shalandra arrived. It was not long though before circumstances would bring them together again. Shalandra was forced to kill her lady-in-waiting during an alleged assassination attempt and beseeched her brother the Emperor that, feeling insecure and threatened, she needed courtiers around who she could trust. To this end she petitioned him to grant clemency to Giovanna and allow her to return to the Imperium. The terms of Giovanna's pardon are strict: she is forbidden to make any claim to House Montelli's former titles or estates, is indentured to serve the Princess Royal as lady-in-waiting for a period not less than five years, and is dependent on Shalandra to regularly vouch for her good behaviour during this time. Nevertheless she has re-adjusted well to life at court and is now a familiar face around the Palace. Although quiet, homely and soft-spoken she is fiercely loyal to the Princess and has resisted all attempts by the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood to recruit her as an informer.
