Character Name: Hieronymus Tek, usually known as simply Tek
Faction: Mobius Turgenova Smuggler Gang
Sex: Male
Age: 27
Hair color: Black
Eye color: Brown
Unusual markings/piercings/tattoos: None visible; however, he has quite a number of hidden implants and neural enhancers. He is rarely seen without his trademark reflective sunglasses and long trenchcoat.
Height/Weight/Built: very slim and tall, with an almost paper-white complexion which has however attained a bit of a tan during his stay on Arrakis
Personality: A certain withdrawn, secretive mien is common to most Ixians, but is more obvious in Tek than others. The old saying "A man of few words" could not be truer in his case, coupled with pallid, mask-like features that rarely display any show of human emotion, due to nature rather than the self-control practised by Bene Gesserit adepts. Supremely pragmatic and calculating, Tek sees the world through the eyes of a scientist, preferring to deal in numbers and statistics rather than the unpredictable human element.
History: Tek spent his youth like many other girls and boys on Ix, without attracting a lot of attention: his skills as a neuromechanic and electronics engineer did earn him certain praise from his teachers, but on a planet composed of highly skilled scientists and developers, he was only one of many.
What nobody assumed about the quiet young man was the fact that ever since his days as a child he had been secretly assembling all manner of machines based on personal blueprints. At first they had been simple and unassuming, growing more and more complex over the years and, even before departing from Ix, bordering on the restrictions imposed by the Great Convention. Starved of social contact, Tek developed a close bond with his creations early on, which he designed to fulfil the roles of toys, friends and later on lovers. Each of them was more refined than the last, reaching closer and closer to what one would define as a “thinking machine”, which in return made Tek even more aloof and solitary than before in order to conceal their existence. However as the degree of sophistication grew, so did the difficulty of acquiring component parts, a necessity which eventually brought Tek in contact with C'tair Magorian's small group of illegal technology developers who were unhappy with the sanctions of the Butlerian Jihad, claiming it smothered their vision and stunted their evolution as scientists. Through them he met young Amyssa Magorian with whom he initiated his first relationship. Obscure and undefined, it was short lived as Tek discovered his preference for nerve-induction devices surpassed what feelings and lust he harboured for a woman of flesh and blood, and playing second fiddle to a lifeless contraption was unacceptable for Amyssa.
During a raid by Ixian authorities on the young developers' concealed laboratory, Tek's name was the only one linked to what was officially announced as attempts at plagiarism and theft of materials. Whether just mislead or eager to sweep a possible breach of the Convention under the rug, no such allegations were made about it. Tek however had no desire to await punishment; bribing his way out of the System he fled to the least likely place in the Known Universe anyone would go looking for him: Arrakis, the desert planet. There, he met Mobius Turgenova and offered his services as a weapons engineer to him and his smuggler gang.
