Character Name: Lilith Piacevole
Faction: Bene Gesserit
Sex: Female
Age: 24
Hair color: Copper red
Eye color: green
Unusual markings/piercings/tattoos: None that are instantly visible; she does, however, sport several subtle tattoos on her thigh, lower abdomen and backside.
Height/Weight/Built: Lilith is, as far as her height is concerned, a rather short young woman barely reaching 5’4’’, yet the imposing confidence of her demeanor intimidates the unwary or those not trained in the arts of subtle manipulation, raising her to a height beyond her own. Lilith is slim built and lean, each of her muscles trained and developed during many hours of exhausting training, her small frame harbouring death in many guises.
Personality: Over time, Lilith has been regarded as many things: unwanted daughter, precocious child, unbroken rebel, traitor, gifted student and vicious adversary, all of which ultimately blended together to form the complexity of her personality. Resilient and determined, she has the ability to withstand great physical and emotional deprivation, nurturing hatred deep inside, patiently awaiting the greater rewards for her efforts, and the eventuality of swift, merciless revenge if wronged. Her web of deceit and manipulation stretches widely, ensnaring those that cross her path for her own selfish purposes.
History: When Daniel Piacevole, ruler of the homonymous Minor House, accepted Marie-Suzanne into his household as his legal wife, little did he know of the woman’s true allegiance and abilities. A Reverend Mother of Hidden Rank, Marie-Suzanne kept her provenance secret and the blue tint of her eyes hidden behind contact lenses, very aware of her husband’s distrust and even hatred towards the mysterious order of “witches". All Daniel had known of the quiet, pragmatic and terribly plain woman he called wife as part of a predictably arranged marriage was that she had received a few Bene Gesserit courses, nothing beyond that. House Piacevole had obtained considerable assets extremely fast, partly due to successful trade and a budding planetary industry but especially thanks to the impressive stock of melange stashed in their treasury, rumoured by many to have been acquired through smuggling. Aspiring to the title of House Major, Daniel knew he lacked the traditional noblesse of families such as the Corrinos or the Atreides, and hoped that through marriage to Marie-Suzanne, the only daughter of a dying, near-bankrupt Major House, he would gain a strong foothold in the Landsraad.
Arrangements complete, all he still needed was an heir, and with the announcement of his wife’s pregnancy, everything seemed to fall in place.
The desired heir failed to arrive, however, and Marie-Suzanne gave birth to twin girls instead. Despite being identical to the last freckle on their face, the girls couldn’t have been more different personality wise: dutiful, obedient, patient Angela won heart after heart with her sweet, kind personality and it seemed that her parents would have no problem finding her an appropriate husband. Lilith, on the other hand, possessed by a fighty, disobedient streak, which quickly earned her the contempt of both her father and the rest of the household. Slowly, she receded into the shadow of her sister’s glow, seldom acknowledged, merely tolerated, which filled her soul with further resentment.
The Piacevole marriage was also crumbling to pieces; following her first quick pregnancy, Marie-Suzanne failed to become with child ever again; there was no love between them and her husband would have liked nothing more than to divorce her, but he feared the impact such a scandal would have on his House’s growing reputation. To add to the tension, Daniel often blamed the “damned witches" influence, as his wife unnerved him time and time again with skills which bespoke her Bene Gesserit training. The animosity culminated with Marie’s decision to send both her daughters, aged 5, to the Wallach IX Chapterhouse for training. Daniel was aghast; he plainly refused, claiming he would rather see his name crumble into the dust of forgotten history than allow “the horrid crones" to train a child of his; what went on behind closed doors during one particularly heated argument with his wife nobody was able to tell for certain, but truth remained that both Angela and Lilith boarded a Heighliner bound for Wallach the following month.
For the first time in her life, Lilith had the opportunity to prove her talents; as an initiae she toiled avidly, awed by the mystical powers shown by older Sister and Reverend Mothers, anticipating the day she would be able to wield such weapons and knowledge herself. Her sister Angela, fashioned for the privileged life of nobility, homesick and unhappy, had a much more difficult time adapting to Wallach IX and the hardships that were inherent to Bene Gesserit education. Following their second form admittance test, shortly after their 15th birthday, the twins’ destinies firmly parted; Lilith was accepted into the Virgae group of potential Reverend Mothers, while Angela was made Profictus, on the road to becoming a member of the general Sisterhood, a records keeper at one of their Chapterhouses.
With her victory however came Lilith’s first deeper understanding of Bene Gesserit dogma, and the realization that she was never going to be the powerful free woman she dreamed of becoming, but instead a pawn in the Sisterhood’s never ending plots, forever bound to them, her very life pledged to their purposes. This enraged her, driving her to rebellious acts in the company of fellow renegades Elisha Montague and Cassandra Deucatur, with whom she formed a pact of disobedience. With their blatant rule breaking, the three teenage girls tested the patience of their proctors until an ultimatum was given: either to comply with the Sisterhood standards or be expelled from their ranks forever.
Around the same time, Lilith caught the attention of one of the most uncommon Reverend Mothers to have lived on Wallach IX for many years, Miral Alechem, known for her unorthodox methods of teaching, the extreme abilities she possessed in the arts of male dominance and taught her own special selected Acolytes as well as the fact that she was one of the youngest Reverend Mothers and Truthsayers in centuries. One late night, Lilith was roused from her bed and hauled into Alechem’s office, where the older woman sat, immobile, behind her desk, unfathomable eyes moving with unwavering scrutiny across her face:
“Your expulsion is imminent, Piacevole. Your friends’, too." she said calmly.
Piacevole , thought Lilith and anger rose within her. First names were never used at the school, to prevent emotional bonding through intimacy.
“Then why aren’t you expelling us right now, if that is true?" she ventured bravely.
“Mother Superior Romus would indeed, were she the one sitting in my place now, only for that remark, girl. Instead, I want to take you as my Acolyte as soon as your form training is ended."
Silence descended like a blanket which shut out all noise in the room. Despite her best efforts to not show emotion, Lilith’s cheeks flashed a pale rosy hue.
“I know you want the same thing, else I wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of summoning you in here."
Adrenaline coursed painfully through Lilith’s veins; how could she have known? She had barely exchanged a few words with Mother Alechem in the past; she had never told anyone, except Cassandra and Elisha, and surely they couldn’t have told!
“You can rest assured, your friends’ loyalty remains unblemished. They told me nothing. Now, decide, there is no time for debating. Yes, or no." Alechem retorted flatly; Lilith found herself reciting the Litany of Fear in her mind. Was it true then, that Reverend Mothers could read thoughts?
“Yes or no," Miral repeated, the two simple words sharp as whiplashes, crossing the silence like projectiles. Before she realized what went on, Lilith found herself blurting out a sudden “Yes!"
“Good. Although I notice you are neglecting your mental control studies." rasped Miral Alechem in regard to the ease of which the girl had succumbed to her Voice. Just remember this, however: I expect nothing but your utmost dedication. If I see you perform one standard inch below your abilities, you will find yourself on a heighliner off this planet within the hour; no discussion! Now go; you are excused."
Muttering a “Yes, Reverend Mother", Lilith shuffled out of the office.
Having been on the receiving end of just one of the awesome powers of a Reverend Mother, Lilith’s burning desire to attain a similar level was renewed. Her decision did however affect her friendship with Cassandra and especially Elisha, who saw her sudden desire to advance in the Sisterhood ranks as a betrayal to their pact never to submit to the controlling machinations of their teachers. Not long after, Elisha was forever expelled from the Chapterhouse, and Lilith entered the Filiae alvi stage, which brought her only two years away from becoming an Acolyte.
When that happened and she was assigned to Reverend Mother Alechem as her personal student and servant alike, all of Lilith’s hopes of finally attaining a higher status were again shattered. Subjected to exhausting training sessions, humiliating, trying and dangerous tests that often made no apparent sense and stripped of any possessions or dignity, for two long, painful years she was treated worse than the lowliest servant imaginable. Gritting her teeth and enduring it all, Lilith was determined to prove she would not be broken; harbouring a mixture of hatred and admiration for Miral Alechem she slowly began to reap the fruits of her efforts. Her senses had been fine tuned to notice and record the smallest changes and characteristics of the environment and individuals alike, combined with excellent prana-bindu and combat skills as well as some of Miral Alechem’s personal techniques regarding sexual dominance and extracting information from even the most unwilling subjects. The road to Reverend Motherhood being a long one, Lilith’s current assignment is to join the Bene Gesserit “emissarie espion", gathering information vital to the Sisterhood and handling delicate matters.
