Daniel Piacevole
A supremely ambitious man who would stop at nothing to get what he wants, Daniel Piacevole has tenaciously climbed his way through the Imperium's social ranks, achieving at last his forefathers' dream of House Major status. This he considers a historic victory, and has decreed a new national holiday on his home planet to celebrate the event, complete with yearly festivities, as well as a number of paintings and monuments of which he is the central figure.
His ego notwithstanding, Daniel Piacevole is a shrewd businessman and politician, and his tendency to make decisions seemingly on mere whims has long confounded both advisers and rivals. His impetuous nature and passionate speeches have earned him quite a reputation in Landsraad, seen by some as little better than a rich upstart, a dangerous social climber by others, and an admirable statesman by a third group. His primary concern is establishing House Piacevole as a force to be reckoned with, and ensuring its future in history.
Privately, Daniel is an engaging man, though his bluntness sometimes makes him appear cruel. He has little tolerance for incompetence and what he perceives as weakness, and a deep distrust for all things that cannot be confined to the physical laws of the Universe, such as religion, mysticism and the witches of the Bene Gesserit. Therefore, when his wife Marie-Suzanne revealed that she was a fully fledged Reverend Mother, Daniel felt deeply betrayed, and he never entirely forgave her deception or the fact that she twisted his arm into sending his daughters to Wallach IX to be educated.
Marie-Suzanne Piacevole
Marie-Suzanne has always been defined by a sense of unwavering duty. Her mother was Bene Gesserit, the only companion of Duke Herbert Bakal, and before she faced the Spice Agony she made him swear he would ensure their daughter followed the same training she did. Duchess Coraline did not survive; burdened by grief and mounting financial problems, it was therefore with enormous effort that Duke Herbert fulfilled his wife's dying wish and Marie was enrolled into the Bene Gesserit upon her 6th birthday.
The Sisterhood's austerity suited Marie-Suzanne serious and reserved nature. Her excellent cognitive and analytical skills made her a candidate for Mentat training, which she undertook alongside her other studies with utter dedication and loyalty to the Sisterhood. She had been a Reverend Mother less than two years when the marriage proposal from Daniel Piacevole arrived, and she was instructed by the Proctors to accept. In addition, she was to bear him two daughters, and no more, a decision she accepted as both Reverend Mother and Mentat as necessary.
Marie-Suzanne did not reveal the depth of her training to her new husband for years to come, concealing her blue-within-blue eyes behind contacts and her Reverend Mother abilities behind a mask of careful deception. She did function as Daniel's Mentat adviser, and professionally they got along better than they did personally. Their marriage was a loveless one, tensions rising ever further following Marie's inability to produce a male heir and culminating with her revelation that she was a Reverend Mother, whose Voice-tinged arguments in favour of Lilith and Angela's necessary Sisterhood education Daniel found himself incapable of refuting. Marie-Suzanne continues to function as Mentat for House Piacevole, although her life is otherwise completely separated from that of her husband.
Angela Raisbek (neé Piacevole)
Although physically identical to Lilith Piacevole, Angela differs greatly from her twin sister in temperament: she is obedient and well behaved, with an air of endearing meekness about her, which disguises the rather vengeful streaks she is capable of.
The beginning of her training as a Bene Gesserit constituted Angela's “fall from grace.” Over night she had been transformed from her parents' golden child into just another name on a very long list of innitiae, treated with the same cold strictness as everyone else by the hard faced, intimidating Proctors. Although not by any means dim or untalented, Angela failed to achieve anything but barely average results in most of her studies, with the exception of mnemonic abilities for which she had a predilection, and eventually was disqualified for potential Reverend Motherhood.
This embittered Angela even further, convinced that she had been evaluated wrongly. Despite the disappointment however, she discovered that Profictua training agreed with her better; it was less taxing, allowing her to work in the Chapterhouse archives, and even assist other Sisters in teaching young Innitiae history courses. Although she and the rest of the Profictuae maintained a good degree of physical prowess, the focus of their education shifted to diplomacy, etiquette and for some, preparing for the possibility of becoming the companion of a Major House noble, which Angela did in early 10,125 by marrying Baron Lars Raisbek of Amaryllis Nine.
Perenelle Livell
Perenelle was only 16 years old when Viscount Daniel's suitors approached her, offering her the great honour of becoming his bound concubine. Her family had served House Piacevole for many generations and she had lived her entire life on Livorno Decimus, the Viscount thus wanting to ensure his wife's deception did not repeat itself.
Impulsive and emotional, Perenelle soon believed herself madly in love with Daniel, and would lapse into deep melancholy whenever she could not be at his side. Although by no means cruel, the Viscount quickly tired of her girlish fancies and, when the attention she craved dwindled (particularly after the birth of their son Titus), Perenelle began looking around for culprits. She is given to irrational bouts of jealousy, certain another woman is interfering between Daniel and her, and she regards Marie-Suzanne with paranoid fear, certain “the witch” hates her and wishes her death. She is very attached to her young son Titus.
Titus Piacevole
Being Heir Apparent to a Great House is a lot of responsibility to be placed on the young shoulders of an eight year old boy, something Titus Piacevole feels acutely. A somewhat moody and withdrawn child, the daily grind of training and preparation for his eventual role as Viscount often drives young Titus to lengthy contemplations of what life would be beyond the castle, and free of the never-ending duties and tedious lessons. Being indulged in most whims both by his mother and father has made Titus a rather spoiled child, and the constant awareness of his status is contributing to an emerging arrogant streak.
